As I am interacting with leaders around the country, one theme continues to surface.  We are busy, but many of us long for gospel community.  The influence and affluence of women is growing, but with wealth and success, often comes isolation.  Here are some stunning statistics:
  • 48% of American millionaires are women*
  • The number of wealthy women in the U.S. is growing twice as fast as the number of wealthy men.*
  • Women now make up 40% of students at top MBA programs**

**Fortune, Gwen Moran, November 9, 2017

It is not that we need more things on our calendar. What we are longing for is meaningful connection. In this edition of Ignite News, we hear from leaders who are making those connections and bringing their friends and partners together for greater generosity, intentional community and Kingdom impact.

With gratitude,
Julie

As a finance professional, Laurel Numbers deals daily with questions about money and how best to use resources. After attending an Inspiring Generous Joy (now WDW Signature Event) event in Portland last year, she and another igniter started a Women’s Bible Study to continue the conversation around generosity and finances.

1) What drew you to get connected to Women Doing Well?

Katie Kavehrad, from NCF, really was my initial connection to WDW.  Also, my team at work is already involved with Generous Giving and NCF so this was a natural attraction.

2) What is a word or phrase that describes your view of giving before encountering the biblical message of generosity?

Legalistic

3) What is one key way that WDW has helped you progress in your generosity journey?

Materialism and greed are sneaky and subtle.  Keeping the topic on the proverbial “front burner” in my own life keeps me on track.  The video from Tim Keller has been especially helpful to me.

4) How have you seen God move in your city and community post the Inspiring Generous Joy (now WDW Signature Event) event?

I am involved in an ongoing Bible study focused on the topics of money, fear vs. faith, generosity, etc.  This group came about because of the Inspiring Generous Joy (now WDW Signature Event) event in Portland last year and it continues to keep the topic on that “front burner”.

Katherine Tsay was skeptical at best when it came to the topic of generosity.  So skeptical that she only attended her first Journey of Generosity when her good friend April hosted a JOG in place of her bachelorette weekend!  Watch how God met Katherine on her generosity journey through a job in finance, marriage and ultimately, a deep reliance on God as her ultimate provider.

Katherine Tsay gave her testimony at Generous Giving’s 2017 Celebration of Generosity in Orlando. This October, Generous Giving will be hosting their Fall Celebration of Generosity in Seattle. My Year of No Shopping

Could you go an entire year without shopping? In this repost of an op-ed from The New York Times, author Ann Patchett walks through her experience with a no-shopping year and the lessons she learned about her habits—and herself.

The idea began in February 2009 over lunch with my friend Elissa, someone I like but rarely see. She walked into the restaurant wearing a fitted black coat with a high collar.

“Wow,” I said admiringly. “Some coat.” …
