Everyone’s hungry for home. That simple truth has shaped my life—from childhood transitions to raising five children, from practicing law to flipping houses with my husband. Through it all, I’ve learned that home isn’t defined by a building—it’s defined by family. And when we root our family culture in Christ, we create a place of refuge, joy, and generosity.
A Legacy of Faith and Mission
I grew up in a family marked by evangelism and missions. Though we moved often, our home was always centered around Christ. That legacy taught me that the building is not the home—the family is. It’s a lesson I’ve carried into every season of life, especially as we’ve opened our doors to others through hospitality.
From Law to Home-Flipping
God shifted my path in a way I never expected. After a successful law career, I felt called to something different—something more hands-on and heart-centered. My husband and I began flipping homes, and in the process, we discovered how physical spaces can become spiritual places of blessing.
Cultivating Intentional Family Culture
Every person has a family culture. The question is: Will you be intentional in creating yours? We’ve chosen to build traditions that reflect our values, involve our children in hospitality, and make our home a place where people feel seen and loved.
Hospitality isn’t about performance or perfection—it’s about loving people well. Even when we don’t feel like it, we push through, because you don’t understand the blessing you receive in blessing others until you step into obedience.
Practical Hospitality Tips
- Keep a hospitality basket ready with snacks, candles, and cards
- Involve your kids in preparing for guests
- Create a “welcome ritual” for visitors (a prayer, a song, a shared meal)
- Don’t wait for your home to be perfect—invite people in anyway
- Ask: “What are you 100% depending on the Lord for?” and share that journey with others
A New Season of Purpose
As our children grow and leave home, I’ve found new purpose in sharing our story through my book, Hungry for Home, and my TV show, At Home with Ruth McKeaney. Both were miraculous gifts—doors opened by God to encourage others to cultivate homes of generosity and grace.
Final Encouragement
Psalm 57:1 reminds us: “Be merciful to me, O God… for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take…”
